Heatseeker Debuts On Stage
Saturday August 19, 2006 marked the stage debut of the Mack Music Systems Heatseeker guitar amp.
That night the Heatseeker head with its accompanying 1 X 12 Mack Music cabinet was used by Rob Dobson, guitarist for the Granite Porcines at a hospital fund charity event.
The Granite Porcines are a classic rock cover band that, in the words of its drummer Byron Werry, provide a 'wall of sound' at each of their gigs. If nothing else they are loud!
Dobson, a guitar and amp collector of note and a very knowledgeable gear-head, used the Tbolt rig throughout the gig.
A post-gig email summed up Dobson's experience with the Heatseeker:
"Don, thanks for ... providing the guitar amps this year. They sounded superb.
I'm amazed by my new T-Bolt. It sounds great, is way versatile and I still don't believe it's only 18
watts - I had volume to spare at the gig. I've tried gigging with my Ghia and my Blues Junior in the past
and they didn't cut it very well. I can see the T-Bolt being my #1 for quite a while.
I seriously think you're on to something."
Needless to say, we at Mack Music were thrilled with the Heatseeker's reception!
Having attended the gig ourselves we had a few or our own observations.
True to their billing the Porcines are indeed loud! Nonetheless, the Tbolt cut through the mix in the small to medium sized venue and effortlessly made itself felt at any volume.
The tone was, in our opinion - and Dobson's, terrific. True tube tone all the way from crystal clean to maximum raunch. We couldn't be happier!
Also of note was the Heatseeker's versatility. The only effect between the guitar and amp was an overdrive pedal used to give an easily accessible volume boost during solos. Once the the amp volume was set to achieve the desired maximum volume and overdrive/distortion tone, adjusting the guitar's volume control was the only change necessary to go from clean chime and cluck to full on, rockin' overdrive/distortion. No pedal dancing, no amp tweaking. A twist of the guitar volume was all it took to morph between any and all required tones. Very versatile!
The birth of the Heatseeker continues on pace and with very exciting feedback!
