Mack Launches New Models

May 18, 2008 – Mack Music Systems Limited is pleased to announce the introduction of three new models:

1.    Heatseeker HS-36 featuring four EL84 output tubes.

2.    Skyraider SR-15 with two 6V6 output tubes.

3.    Skyraider SR-30 with four 6V6 output tubes.

We are also pleased to announce that all of our amps are now available in both head and combo formats.

True to Mack’s Budget Boutique philosophy of using standardized designs to maximize productivity and minimize production costs ... so that we can offer the best possible tone at the best possible price, the new models feature the same preamp setup, chassis and cabinet as the Heatseeker HS-18.

Tone-wise what this means is that the difference between the Heatseeker and Skyraider lines is the output tubes.  Comparing a ‘Seeker and a ‘Raider side by side really shows off the tonal difference between EL84s and 6V6s.  The EL84 amps produce the characteristic lush midrange and upper mids along with chimey cleans.  The 6V6 amps producer ‘creamy’ cleans and darker overdrive and distortion.

Two different tones, both very desirable!

Here’s a comparison chart that shows prices and information to help determine the similarities and differences between all four of our amp models.

Regarding specifications, all amps share the following characteristics:

1.    Class A/B.

2.    Cathode or ‘self’ bias.

3.    12AX7 preamp tube with each half of the tube (12AX7s feature two tube sections in one bottle) wired in parallel for added gain and warmth.

4.    Three-position Character switch that increase gain and bass response (ideal for adjusting the gain structure of the amp for single coil and humbucker equipped guitars).

5.    Singlet tone control – treble roll off.  Minimal tone controls minimize gain loss and frequency response alteration as compared to typical treble-middle-bass tone control ‘stacks’.

6.    No feedback, which maximizes gain and produces a thicker, raunchier overdrive and distortion characteristic.

Now for the eye candy!

Heatseeker HS-36

This HS-36 is the ‘E’ model featuring the optional all-tube effects loop!  The FX loop is available on any model head.  Because we use a common chassis design for all amps we can’t put an FX loop amp in a combo cab – the rear mounted controls would be inaccessible.  Pricing and final specifications are not yet finalized.

Heatseeker HS-18C Combo

All amp models are now available as a combo as well as a head.  The Mack combo features the 12”, Eminence “The Wizard” ceramic magnet speaker.  That’s the same speaker that we use in the 1X12 CB closed back/vented speaker cabinet.
