Recording Notes
Mics: The Heatseeker HS-36 and the Skyraider SR-15 and 30 were recorded using a Shure SM-57 placed at the speaker grill on center and a Neumann TLM 103 placed about 6' away on axis.
Console setup: The mics were fed into NEVE (Type 3117) mic preamps. The line outs of the Neves were then sent directly to the digital converters of a Tascam DM3200 console (bypassing the Line In's) and recorded directly to Nuendo - with ZERO effects, ZERO EQ and ZERO compression.
Special note for HS-36, SR-15 and SR-30: To enable a true comparison of how these amps sound, the guitar tracks were first recorded direct (the guitars were plugged into a Radial DI and fed into the NEVE preamp and recorded as above). Then the direct tracks were fed to each amp from the console and the amps were recorded as noted above. This "re-amping" technique allows you to compare each amp model knowing that the exact same guitar track is being played in each clip!
